Lunch Pack: Instant Roti Canai and DIY curry

Hi folks!

Lunch for today...Instant pack of Roti Canai (a type of Indian bread) with homemade curry (my first time cooking curry to match with roti canai).

Been trying to search and read curry recipes lately, had even bought an instant curry rendang package(but I didn't use it this round) as I am not good at making curry since I don't fancy spicy food. But i do love non-spicy curry, e.g., those we used to eat with roti canai or even some North Indian curry.

As DH bought a pack of instant roti canai last year, I am in the midst of clearing pantry and stuff, I decided to attempt to cook this curry myself..imagining or trying to remember the curry ingredients while scouting around ingredients available at home. Ha..true enough, I do not have the typical ingredients needed for cooking a decent curry...so I bought a packet of organic curry powder from BMS organic the other day and trying to work around the flavour and taste.

Voila, now i found a good way to finish off my remaining tomato paste..I added half can of tomato paste into the curry and it taste awesome (just like the curry my mom used to make for us!). And the curry turned bit soury, bit sweet(added bit sugar, salt to taste) so that it is suitable for KY to bring for lunch.

Verdict: Not bad if only i have steam the chickpeas in advance then i don't have to cook so long and the thick curry could retain(I added more water later on just so that the pot don't get burnt while i am trying to soften the chickpeas!)

So, in total below are the ingredients I used for this basic first-timer curry (hehe):
  • Curry powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar to reduce "hotness"
  • Half can of tomato paste
  • Potatoes
  • Tempe
  • Chickpeas
  • Water
  • Mushroom seasoning powder (optional)
  • Soy-based protein textured vegetarian fish and cubes
Yummy...Will remake this next time i learnt how to create my own roti canai ;)

Cheers!
(Lili, I ate two slices for lunch and it was so filling! I bet you feel the same during your breakfast!)

Dos and Don'ts while preparing out kids to formal schooling

Hi folks!

I like to pen down what I learnt about the Do's and Don'ts while preparing our child for primary/school in overall.

1. Speak in positive tone even on the challenges they might be facing.
2. Do not threaten or frighten them as a way to make them be more serious in their homework/attitude. It might backfire.
3. Do not e.g., say things like you must write fast if not you won't be able to finish copying the teaver's message or homework on the board. The teacher won't wait for you.
4. Hohoho..expect to have lotsa homework to do when you enter primary. No more time to play it watch tv, etc.
5. The teacher will be very fierce and will cane the students.

Instead, expose them the opportunities to be independent an be excited over the new friends they will make and the new things they will learn. Make them look forward with excitement rather than fear.

My KY was literally getting all the wrong messages, signals, input and negative comments about primary school which makes her cried in fear the might before starting school much to my surprise and dismay and regrets for not noticing the impacts of such negative comments from all around her..

So folks! Let's be more gentle and positive with our words ..words can uplift someone or create unnecessary fear in someone..May all the words, thoughts and action we said bring benefits to others in a positive way and not the other way round.,.

Cheers! :)

Your kids need the money you earn more than needing your presence?

Hi folks!

How much do you agree/disagree to the subject above, "Your kids need the money you earn more than needing your presence..".

This topic came up to me and a friend during our lunch conversation one day when I shared what is my dream and I mentioned it is to be able to find something I am able to work from home so that I could be around for my children.

Then came the comment from this friend of mine, "Don't ever quit your job!", "Trust me!", "What can you do by working from home?", "How much can you earn?"
"These days, women needed the job more than ever for security sake!"

"Children when they are young is the time you should work hard so that you have the time to be with them when they are in their crucial year, i.e. secondary years/teens.", she added.

Her thoughts were such a big contrast to what i believe in, nurturing kids since young, building a solid foundation, to spend as much time with them since young to build a strong emotional support.

Mommies, what are your thoughts to this?

Yes, I do agree we need the income to provide for the children basic needs but not up to the point of providing them the materials luxuries? Will we be creating more wants from them for material items?

My friend said to her daughter when she requested her mom to drive her to school,"If you want mommy to fetch you to school means mommy cannot go out and earn money, then how to bring you for overseas trips? How to buy things you want to get?" Then, her daughter had no choice but to agree to sit school bus since kindergarten.

But that in turned makes me curious and ask her, "Does this make your daughter expecting/requesting things from you now and then?

She said yes, but she never give in to her request. For example, when her daughter is in primary 6 (12 years old), she requested for a MYR800 mobile phone. Her mom said, "I don't have the kind of money to buy for you." So end up her daughter saved up her pocket money and ang pow money to get it herself. She felt proud as her daughter has learnt how to get the things she wanted in her own means. She is being independent in this sense, she added. And her daughter felt "proud" that she got it using "her own money".

Folks, we are all learning everyday, aren't we...at this point, i am questioning and learning each day, what is the right parenting way for my children and my family values.

Care to share your thoughts and experience?

Please do..thanks for your generosity!

Cheers!
