Things to be Grateful of during Festive season

Hi folks!

Yesterday, at the news @ 8pm, many chinese consumers were being interviewed with the Chinese New Year approaching plus the high expenses incur when kids starting school this 4 Jan, will it affect their pocket and the way they spend. And whether the MYR100 allocation from the government if of any help to them.

Truly, we do spend a lot during festive season don't we? For the Chinese, people usually will buy new clothings, new shoes, etc etc during the CNY.

As for me this year, I will also try not to spend unnecessary.

I am grateful to have:
  1. Enough clothing to wear
  2. Enough food to eat
  3. Enough leaves/holidays to spend with my family

That's all matters during the festive season, isn't it ;)

How do you feel during the upcoming festive season?

Cheers!

DiGi iPhone 4SURE SIRI ANSWERS

Hi folks!

The first telco I used when I first started college is DiGi.

The first smart phone I used at the beginning of motherhood is iPhone.

And together, DiGi and iPhone 4S makes a great companion to me!

I remember I was checking through my e-mails while pumping milk at work during lunch hours during my breastfeeding days.

I was also browsing online using the data packages anywhere, everywhere checking on sales for baby products, checking on route/maps to the warehouse sales etc.

I love DiGi data plans. If you learn about how we were charged MYR750 data plans when we first got our iPhone, you would know why we loved DiGi iPhone plans/packages!

Unlike in US or Japan whereby most places are "wired", you get wifi pretty everywhere you go. In Malaysia, we still need a good data plan to be able to online everywhere, anytime.

So, DiGi sure has a more affordable iPhone packages and data plans to match the users from heavy to light users who surf occasionally.

Now, if we ask Siri which telco has the most affordable iPhone 4S packages, I am curious what Siri would answer...really...who owns an iPhone 4S? Mind to try? Do you get the answer as shown in the picture on the left?

Cheers to a more affordable phone package for Malaysian users!

DiGi iPhone 4SURE I DO 1ST

Hi folks!

When hubby is telling me about the new features of iPhone 4S to me while having meal one day, I was half-listening to him and half-reading+eating. Until he mentioned about the Siri.

Wow, Siri does sure sounds like a great time-saving feature for moms like us! Just imagine checking for route without having to press on the phone, or ask Siri to check on the recipes i have kept in my ibooks. Wow..good good feature for me! Great hands-free assistant in deed.

So, if DH ever get his wish granted on getting the new iPhone 4S (or maybe I got it myself by winning contest running by Nuffnang now), the first feature I will play around with would be Siri! I would check on Siri and see how updated and smart she is by asking her, "Who is the winner of the contest-

"Win the DiGi iPhone 4Showdown!"?

Hoping that Siri would say,
"Ms. Molly Lim from Secondtimeparenthood.blogspot.com"

Yey!

Cheers!

DiGi iPhone 4SURE 4 ME

Hi folks!

There are many of my friends would ask, if I would consider A brand, B brand, C Brand of phones over  iPhone.

Being an iPhone users for more than 2 years, I am quite accustomed to the convenience and companion it has given me.

Even though I have not tried any other brand, but I find no reason to change to the other brand as truly iPhone has been kinda of part of my life.

I used it for voice recording to record my rehearsal for my talks/presentation, my kids use it to check on the Talking Dictionary while reading their books, my hubby browses it daily for latest iPhone apps.

I must say, I Sure Win iPhone 4S!
'Cos
iPhone 4S has won me over!

WooHoo!

DiGi iPhone 4SURE MOST AFFORDABLE

Hi folks!

My DH is the most loyal Apple fan. From playing with the first iPad nano i won from a contest till his daily Macintosh pc he used at work being a Graphic Designer, now he own or played with almost all the i- gadgets.

Being the iPhone reaches M'sia shore, he couldn't wait for it and ordered from the nearest Apple online shop in Asia to ship it over.

Now, with the local telco having it, he is eyeing even more for it. He's the typical gadget guy.

But, one thing for sure, his wife (yours truly) would be the one looking at the $ sign for him. That's what a wife is for, agree?

And truly, the one which really have a better deal/packages would be from DiGi!

DiGi’s iPhone 4S plans the most affordable, why?

Just look at their plans:

KPI to God

Hi folks,

Have you done your KPI lately?

What is KPI? KPI stands for Key Performance Index, is an industry jargon for a type of performance measurement.

KPIs are commonly used by an organization to evaluate its success or the success of a particular activity in which it is engaged. Sometimes success is defined in terms of making progress toward strategic goals. (Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Performance_indicator)

Usually at year end, most companies will be reviewing the KPI with their staff. So do I.

As i reviewed my own KPI, I was thinking how about my KPI with God? Are we doing our part to fulfil our duties as God's children?

No matter what religion or belief you have, you sure do have your own personal goals to achieve.

What about KPI to God? Things like:
  1. How many people have I offered my help, my smiles, my care?
  2. How many challenges have I undertake and overcome?
  3. Have I become a much better person in terms of virtues/character? Am I more caring, more patient, more considerate than before?
  4. Have I perform my worldly duties to my best effort? Have I fulfil my role as a wife, mother, daughter, employee/employer, citizens, friends, etc?
  5. Have I pray to God and let God walk with me in my daily life? Am I closer to God than before?
These are some of the KPI to God that I am reflecting.

What about you? Certainly life is not just about climbing the corporate ladder or building wealth alone.

Hope I will be a better person than I am every single day!

Cheers!

Kitchen Helper

Hi folks!

Lately, I have got an oven toaster and thus excitedly browsing recipe books.

Plus, I have been trying out some smoothies using my trusty hand blender. I used to make baby food with this.

It's truly a good kitchen helper for moms who like to make their own baby food. Most importantly, it's healthier and less messy to clean up compared to other type of blender.

Now, no longer use it to make baby food but still can use it for smoothies, pumpkin soup, mushroom soup etc.

Must make use of it more often :)

Looking forward to experiment some new recipe for the long weekend!

How about you all? What have you been experimenting during this school holiday?

If you got nice places to go, things to do with your children, pls. do share...

As i just recovered from dengue, am slowly getting back my energy, like to do some swimming and travelling with kids to nearby library ;) to make up for the lost time.

All the Best folks and enjoy the rest of the school holidays breeze!

Cheers!

A vaccine for dengue by the end of 2014?

Hi folks!

I have been hearing about this: vaccine for dengue soon...

Here's the news at TheStar Online:
"If all goes well, a vaccine may be available by the end of 2014,' says Sanofi-Pasteur's global department of research and development associate vice-president Jean Lang.

Hope it comes earlier or as scheduled to reduce the pain, suffering and fatality rate of dengue!

Have a healthy day!

Cheers!

Civil servants to get up to 13% pay rise

Hi folks!

Heard the news? Civil servants to get up to 13% pay rise (refer here).

Just when private companies are facing tight budget, unsure bonus payment (don't even mention about increment).

I heard from a friend that Malaysia has the highest ratio of civil servant against total population in the country; which is not a good thing.
Meaning most of the taxpayer money are spent not efficiently.

Well...what do you think?

Or you are thinking to jump into civil working team instead to reap the benefits they are gaining..

Thought of the day....as days nearer to the Year 2012...it's time for reflection.

Cheers and have a fruitful day!

Death from Dengue

Hi folks!

Today's news:
Excerpt (Source: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2011/12/7/nation/10043110&sec=nation)

"Mohd Amirul Izat, who had been admitted to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian since Nov 10, was suspected to have dengue fever and was unconscious for about 23 days before he passed away. He was buried at the Kampung Pohon Tanjung Muslim cemetery."

So yes, dengue does kill ...must take precaution folks!

Cheers and clear away the stagnant water...

Disney Junior Ahoy Adventures

Hi folks!

Last Saturday, my family and I attended our first ever Family Party by Disney titled: "Jake & The Never Land Pirates Family Party".

The whole party was held a rather new shopping mall, Publika at Solaris Dutamas. It was our first time there but I must say the organiser did a good job at drawing out the map with very good pointers on direction. We did not get lost at all!! This is very important as DH tends to get bit annoyed if and when the place/event I suggested was filled with "unnecessary" adventures, e.g. getting lost, couldn't find the place, got there late, etc.

Sophia and team has done a great job. Look at the effort done to the venue, the food, everything to the Pirates theme! All these party theme can be DIY ourselves by checking out the resource center at www.disneyjunior-asia.com!

The event started with photo-taking for the kids with Jake.

Then, followed with Treasure Hunt (tally with the Pirates theme). We won the second prize for being the second fastest to find all the 5 treasures by following the clue given. And we won a special chest which KY used it as her treasure chest to store her rubber bands and stuff, her own treasure chest now :)

All the families (or rather the kids) are given the goody bags!

After that, we are being shown to the much-awaited (by KY who has been waiting and thought I am bring her to watch it at...of all places cinema!! ) Jake & the Never Land Pirates. At the end of the show, KY was asking me why there isn't any popcorn served? She is reminiscing on her previous movie treat :D

The kids are the most attentive audience throughout the show, while the parent bloggers are busy snapping their pictures away.

Next, we are being pampered with lovely food by Marmalade Cafe. The organiser has been gracious enough to set up a vegetarian corner. How thoughtful!

We had yummy spaghetti, pizza, fruit punch and cakes. All the food has special Jake & The Never Land Pirates theme names. Watch the labels given at each dishes!

Lastly, we are also given a nicely-printed card with guides to make the magic wand.

This is one of the family event which we enjoyed as a family for this holiday. Thanks to Disney and to the organizer, Sophia & team!

Here's a group photo with the rest of the parent bloggers who attended this lovely event!

Now, are you ready for some Ahoy show? Tune in to Astro Channel 613 everyday at 1pm and 7.30pm for your dose of treasure hunt and pirates adventures! A special new holiday episode will also be aired at 1pm on Christmas Day, 25 December!

Cheers!

Dengue Fever: What I learned from it?

Hi folks,

Wonder anyone is bored of me keep telling about my dengue ordeal, but I thought it's good to share it and document it so that I remember the lessons learnt.

Honestly, before this I knew little about dengue except it was caused by mosquito bite(of certain species; of the black and white-legged mozzies) that carries the virus. The only symptom I knew then was your bone will ache.

Little did I knew these:
  1. Some will have red itchy rashes on their skin ( I still have it on my legs, it shows that it has not fully gone...).
  2. Some would experience severe vomitting (like me).
  3. Some or most would experience bleeding (I had menses-like bleeding lasted 6 days after my original menses ends 5 days earlier; reason being the wall of the uterus has not recovered and hit by the virus....). Thus, when I discharged, the warning Doctor gave me was, take care not to fall or cut yourself, to avoid bleeding as the platelet level has not returned. So the bleeding would take longer time to heal. If you really bleeds(according to the nurse), hold the wound for longer time to stop the bleeding; that is what I did when the nurse took out the needle and tools which served to hold the drip for 6 days and the bleeding wouldn't stop. Really scary. For the first time of my life, I knew and witness myself how useful and crucial platelet function as part of our body. [Add-on: No brushing teeth, just gargle as brushing might cause your gum to bleed during this time]
  4. Some would have diarrhea.
  5. Fever. I did not know I was 39.5 degree Celsius and once reaching 40, I only felt very hot.
  6. Some severe cases would need blood transfusion.
  7. Some would die from the complication if they have previous/hidden illness or their organs are weak.
  8. It takes one month to fully feel normal again and 6 months for the body to get rid of the virus.
Ok, here are the few new things I learned from dengue....anything to add/ask?

Have a healthy and happy days folks! Laughter is the Best medicine...when I had dengue and find my spirits going low, reading and chatting with friends helped!

Cheers!

Water Color Art by 5 yr old KY

Hi folks! KY been wanted to do some painting with water color. This school holiday I got her some basic tools to start off with. Here's her official Masterpiece at age 5. Can you see what's in the pic?
(It's a butterfly! Mommy has zero input at her art piece, merely financing her tools and cleaning after the mess helped by DH)

My Personal Experience with Dengue

Hi folks!

Many people asked how my platelet managed to go up and many also shared with me some home remedies.

When I admitted to hospital, all the hospital did was put me on drip to keep me from dehydration, took my temperature, blood pressure and blood test daily as part of their monitoring measure.

The Doc said, "There's nothing much we can do except to wait for the platelet count to rise."

I asked, "Is there anything I could do to help it to rise faster and heal faster? And how long I need to be at the hospital(thinking of my kids, work and also dreaded at the daily vomiting I had as if morning sickness I endured during my two pregnancies whereby I was on drip few times too)"

Dr. said, " Well there's nothing much we can do as currently there's no medication for dengue. That's why you see we don't prescribe any medication for you. Do you need any medication for your fever and vomitting?"

I said," I have been vomitting few times and not able to drink or eat since morning(it was late afternoon when the Dr. finally came). And I am feeling very hot( from inside, the air-cond was put at 23 degree Celsius by the nurse as she said had to keep my temperature down. Then someone who shared the room with me switched it to 32!!!!! while I was a slept, making me feeling hot and sweaty all over..."

I cannot imagine when I was having two-room ward, I am already facing difficulties with the air-cond plus sleeping time( the Korean youngster who slept to me earlier who had dengue as well was a late sleeper and been watching late night movies with her laptop :P).

Throughout my 6 days there, I have 5 different roommates. One of the them being the Ms. Malaysia, Soo Wincci who shifted after the single room is available I think..she had a minor car accident nearby. Being sick and not really a good timing(with people hospitalized)  I did not take the chance to take a pic with her. But wow, she really looks great with very good complexion and outlook in life as she described her ordeal with her friends and family who came to visit. No self-pity, blaming etc, still busy accessing her laptop.. :)

Now back to how I recovered from dengue.. I truly was not sure what truly helps.. But I am very thankful for people(my babysitter) who brought me papaya juice(she just squeeze the juice out and I drank it fresh, slightly bitter but still bearable) & to my sis who brought me fresh watermelon juice(which I drank it all)!

I only took one teaspoon of papaya leaf juice for two days( and vomitted it out afterward); but I guess part of it still did went in my body as after that, the next day my platelet goes up, and I was discharged after resting one more day.

The Dr. saw my papaya leaf juice and want to know his reaction & explanation on the source of this home remedies? Let me explain in the next post.. as it's getting too lengthy this post.. Are you folks yawning already?

Note: I purposely wrote this post for my sifu(former colleague and a great teacher for me in life & at work) who SMS me about hi friend who is having dengue). Hope my sharing helps...

Cheers!

How many life-endangering moments we must meet before we come to our senses?

Hi folks!

Today is the second day back to work(again..yep...after taking/clearing leave for another week) after recuperate.

Though it seems a bit wasteful to spent my leave to sleep at home (usually at this time of the year, I would take leave to spent time with the kids doing stuff since it's school holiday!). But what to do, we all have to do what's the needed most at the right time, don't we? At this moment, what I truly need is rest and recuperate. And of course get well real soon so that I could function well as a mom and as a wife.

I have not have much energy to carry my kids, walked very long with them, bring them to playground, chat with hubby (running out of breath) or worked very long at work without getting backache. That is what I have experienced when I went back to work earlier. But as my hospitalisation leave is over and there is work waiting at workplace, duedate to meet, I had to go back and also to try and see if I am "back to normal". True to behold, I AM NOT. And when i went online, two friends who had dengue before told me it'll take a month to really recover back. No wonder i am feeling giddy, cold and having backache.

Anyway, after clearing urgent work and God Bless, my manager is back in office the subsequent Monday, I took one week off just to rest and also take time to visit the western doctor and Traditional Chinese Doctor. I took another bloodtest at my panel doctor to confirm the platelet has back to normal (226); normal reading would be between 150-450. When I asked the western doctor why I am feeling giddy? He took my blood pressure and said my blood pressure was low. And when I told him of my backache, he gave me muscle relaxing pill and painkiller.

So after 2 days, not feeling recovered, at the advice of many friends, I went to see a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medical practitioner) at USJ. I heeded his advice and took 5 (supposed to be 6 but one dose I accidentally turned it to charcoal when it got burnt :P) of chinese herbs that needs to brew ourselves, from 7 rice bowls of water till left 1 bowl which takes around 1 1/2 hr.

I felt much better today but cannot help worrying that one more bowl which I wasted.. :P gotta call him to check also about taking white radish soup which my mom told me to be good for cleansing blood...as I heard if you are taking chinese medicine, you cannot take certain food and white radish is one of them.

Anyway this post is supposed to be about life-endangering moments. If I exclude the two c-section, this would be my second life-endangering moments. The first one being a car accident(whereby my Kancil was overturned twice in 2002 or 2003). I am indeed lucky to be still alive and blogging right now.

But, I hope and I am reminding myself here, to really live my life well and not to let this event gone off my mind and lead(again) a meaningless rushy hour daily life...and lead a life full of regrets....

Cos how many "reminders"/"warning signals" we want God to send us before we can come to our senses? And how many can we endure SAFELY?

So seriously have to reprioritise our life and lead a meaningful life to serve our life purpose and mission! Be Grateful at all times and smell the fresh air, feel the sweatness of plain, clean water and stretch our arms and take in a deep breath; exercise and move our body. Live a healthy and purposeful life!

Cheers!
(Stay tuned on my coming post soon on what I did or rather ppl around me did to make the platelet climbs back...surviving dengue...)

Recuperate Act : Chinese Medicine

Hi folks! If you watched those kungfu or ancient Chinese drama, you might have seen them brewing some Chinese medicine over the charcoal. Today I am brewing this too. Apparently I have been having terrible backache and heaty spell & went to seek advice from both western & Chinese TCM. My organs all all "burning" & weak.. Gee had to stop all those "heaty" soup(do u know red dates & tong sum are heaty? Now I knew..).now my backache felt better..and when u need to take bitter medicine try get those sweet/sour plums.. Easier for swallowing the concoction ;)

Recuperate Act: Red Dates drink

Hi folks! Usually Chinese would take this drink for confinement. Due to bleeding I had during dengue battle, I had to make this drink to replenish the blood supply.. I bought this pre-packed from Chinese medical store for RM25 per pkt. It has red dates, dried longan, black dates, Bei qi, tongsum & wolfberries. Good to rebuild blood & qi.
